Classes

Often, opera singers have undergone many years of vocal training in order to master their craft, and it is unquestionable that Voice remains the beating heart of the medium. But most singers have had only spotty and inconsistent acting training whilst at music college or university, and, lacking a framework in which to think about acting and interpretation, are under confident about this less practised half of their art.

How is the voice and spirit of the character going to be embodied on the stage or concert platform? How can we turn our wish to give a truthful, full, emotionally connected performance into a reality that will move and entertain our audience? How can we find freedom, variety and spontaneity in performance within the strictures of the score, ensuring faithfulness to the composer? Are there simple rules to bear in mind that will keep a singer on the right track in rehearsals and performance?

I will be running workshops this year for singers who would like to improve their acting, performance and interpretation skills. What you will learn is relevant to opera, lieder recitals and auditions. Through analysing singers at the top of their game and practising the skills in a closed environment, singers will be given an opportunity to hone their craft and artistry.

I am also available to coach in one on one sessions for auditions, role preparation, and for lessons in more general stagecraft.

If you would like to get in touch about organising a coaching session, or register to be put on a mailing list about upcoming classes, please do so on the contact page.
